Starting the process of working on a new album only coincidentally fell into the period of the covid pandemic for Jan Kerscher and his project Like Lovers. Still, one can feel a considerable influence on the album's atmosphere: the music sounds more existential, more pensive and more serious in a substantial way.
Making sure these feelings hit the audience at the right time, the album was released immediately after its production had been finished. What? The album was already up on all streaming platforms for ten days, starting on 25th February.
10 days to dive deeply into those unique songs. 10 days to feel through the creative process of making it. 10 days to contemplate the transience of all things. 10 days to enjoy music. After the album vanished again 10 days later, the following months will see the release of singles and videos to set the stage for a more conventional album release on the traditional channels - including a release on vinyl. Of course, the album can be pre-ordered without limitations from the 25th february onwards.
With this unusal modus operandi, Like Lovers ties in to the previous release of his epic single „Fall“ off his first album „Everything All The Time Forever“. On release of „Fall“, the video to the song was limited to watch on a custom build website. Although available every day - you could only view it after your local sundown and before your local sunrise.
While the debut album „Everything All The Time Forever“ was almost exclusively a solo mission, „SYNTAX“, as the name suggests, presents itself as a way more collaborative effort, featuring a plethora of different co-writers and guest performers. For instance, the voices of Elena Steri or Hélène Ruzic (singer of the french band -ii-) are to be heard. Australian drummer Brody Simpson as well as Paul Seidel (known from his projects The Ocean and FERN) are an important part of „SYNTAX“. From the inner circle of the Like Lovers cosmos, Hannes Hümmer (alias tenderpeaks) and Jannis Scheurich have also hugely contributed to the album. In a unique way, „SYNTAX“ originates from its own parallel reality. It seems as if Like Lovers lightly and unpretentiously created a whole new musical dimension out of the monotony of the pandemic. Far away from it all, secluded in his studio in a small franconian village.

If you like Nine Inch Nails, Björk etc. FERN is totally for you. I had the pleasure of recording this EP and beeing a part of the live band. So excited to do an album with FERN very soon. Like Lovers
The Cleveland band temper uncompromising metalcore breakdowns with infectious jangle-pop melodies and ample dark humor.
